Whilst signing up for my sewing classes, I was advised to visit a department store in Mansfield where last season’s fabric collections were on sale at £5 per metre. I was also supposed to be looking for a pattern for my dressmaking class.

The haberdashery section was like a little oasis of calm, quiet and quilting opportunities, There wasn’t just one shelf of clearance fabric, but a whole AREA. Lots of colour schemes, florals, stripes, zigzags…

Needless to say, I preferred the new collections, but at £15 per metre I restrained myself from looking too closely. I spent about an hour comparing, contrasting and eventually choosing 8 different fabrics, plus 4 coordinating fat quarters. Now I just have to settle on a project.
